Sophia's First Holy Communion Weekend

Last weekend, we flew to North Carolina for a family visit in honor of Sister Sophia's First Holy Communion. We had such a great weekend which was full of family, friends and FUN.

We kicked off the weekend with a birthday party for family friends, Virgina, aka GiGi, and Davis, 3-yr-old twins who had the best party. Quite a schmorgasboard of food for the taking and believe you me, we took. Grandma Judy made the best bbq in NC! Yum scrum. Naturally, we were the tallest ppl there, minus Alexis and me of course. We represent the under 6'5" crowd, thank you very much. After the twins' birthday party, Patrick and I met up with some of his college friends for some beers and good stories. We had planned on staying for just a little bit but ended up calling it a night at midnight! So much for made plans. Nonetheless, we had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer.

On Saturday, we promised Sophia that we would wake up at 7 am to play with her and sure to our promise, we were up. She did grant us a few minutes here or there, bc we got to sleep in until almost 730! :) Once up, she had big plans that included everything active. Around lunchtime, Evan and Alexis and Patrick and I left to meet Chris McKittrick for lunch and an afternoon of running around NC. Super fun day. Later that night, we were at Jeanne and Peter's for dinner with the ENTIRE clan! In true Marty fashion, older brother Marty arrived for his less than 24 hour visit to town. It was an awesome time and we had yuuuuuuuuuuumiest dinner and dessert - my favorite: BANANA CAKE. Who knew that I would fall so hard for something so sweet and wonderful?! :) We watched Sophia open her first holy communion presents and our wedding slideshow video which you can see here. We also caught up with special family members like Grandma and Grandpa E, Aunt Maria who traveled all the way from NY, Grandma Botchi and Clare and John. Quite a party and full of fuuu-uuun.

After the festivities died down, Patrick and I were off again, but this time to visit newly-engaged Tanner and Kelli! It was SO much fun to talk wedding and see her beautiful ring. They are the cutest couple and we couldn't be happier for them! Sweet Kelli caught the bouquet at our wedding - hello, divine intervention. :)

Finally, the BIG DAY was here! We were up bright and early for Sophia's First Holy Communion and after breakfast, Alexis, Jeanne and I helped Sophia get ready. Then we went to church and took 9 million photos, courtesy of me (and Jeanne!) THANKFULLY, it was for a good cause, bc you know who always puts the kabosh on picture-taking. It was a beautiful mass and Sophia stole the show in her gorgeous dress. Afterwards, we headed back to Jeanne and Peter's for MORE YUMMY FOOD. Seriously, if I didn't manage to gain 5 pounds over the weekend, it's by the grace of God! Sophia had a great turnout for her party to celebrate such a special achievement. She even helped cut her cake after lunch - super presh. As fun as the day had been, it was soon cut short as Evan and Alexis had to head back to DC and Marty, Patrick and I were packing up for PA and the big D. We managed to sneak in a little Bo Jangle's with Chris before heading to the airport, so Patrick was a happy camper.

All in all, this trip was yet another fabulous one spent with my new and wonderful family. I can't wait to go back. Soon enough...

*Disclaimer: If I weren't so lazy, I would have reorganized the pictures but instead I've left them in reverse order!
